Since 1975, Joe Cooler of Bluffton has attended the J.H. Hill Center in Ridgeland for people with special needs.
The 58-year-old, who has Down syndrome, has lived with his sister, Linda Collins, for the past 35 years.
"That center is his social life and his world," said Linda Collins. "Hill Center services more than 100 people in some way or another. The staff is great, and all the people that attend, that is their life."
The center will host a barbecue, car show and talent show fundraiser at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Jasper County Farmers Market, 9935 Jacob Smart Blvd. in Ridgeland.

Money raised will help provide services to more than 100 people through The Resource Foundation of Jasper County, which helps people with special needs in Jasper, Beaufort and Hampton counties, and support for the Jasper County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs.
A car show will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. A canteen lunch opens at noon followed by a silent auction from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. The talent show will be from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. A pork barbecue dinner begins at 6 p.m., with a live auction at 6:45 p.m.
Meals are $10 a plate and include pork barbecue, rice, hash, slaw, roll and tea.
