The Hilton Head Island and Beaufort areas sold more homes this May than last, according to the S.C. Realtors association.
Both areas are ahead of last year's pace through the first five months of the year.
In the Hilton Head area, 261 houses and condos sold last month. That's a 23.1 percent increase from last May's total of 212.
The Beaufort area recorded 85 sales, a 6.3 percent increase from last May's total of 80.

So far this year, the Hilton Head area has recorded 1,116 sales, up 11 percent from the first five months of 2010.
The Beaufort area has notched 420 sales this year, up 1.9 percent.
The median price remains down slightly for the year in both areas, off 0.4 percent to $178,200 in Beaufort and 1.1 percent to $228,000 in Hilton Head.
Hilton Head's median rose slightly last month, however, increasing 5.4 percent from $237,090 to $250,000.
