The Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce Leadership program recently held its graduation ceremony at Bear Creek Golf Club, honoring business professionals who completed the yearlong program.
The program focuses on the culture, history, environment, economics and civics of southern Beaufort County. The event's keynote speaker, Thomas Barnwell Jr., was chosen as the 2011 honorary graduate in recognition of his community contributions, the chamber announced.
As its project, the class created the Calhoun Street Promenade gathering place, which features paths, benches and perennial gardens surrounding a fire pit. A sign tells the history of old town Bluffton.
