Dunkin' Donuts has a foothold on Hilton Head Island.
Local franchisee Chi "Will" Wang is leasing a former bank building on Hilton Head's north end.
If all goes well, he said, the retirees and vacationers who flock to the barrier island could sip the national chain's famed coffee and nibble on its namesake pastries in as few as four months.
The building, about 4,500 square feet, is in the Southwood plaza near the Yummy House restaurant on U.S. 278, Wang said. He is leasing it with an option to buy, he said.
Wang said corporate officials orally approved the location. He has yet to seek the town's blessing.
His architect visited the Hilton Head site this week.
Wang said he plans to provide wireless Internet service, leather seats, wooden tables and a drive-through. He hopes it will feel like the Beaufort location and become a social hangout.
"It will be the place people can get together," he said.
Wang has a location in Beaufort and another one brewing at Interstate 95's Exit 8 in Jasper County. The Jasper County location should be finished by the end of March and open in early April, he said.
He plans at least two more Dunkin' Donuts locations in the area.
He said he next will target Hilton Head's south end and Bluffton.
