Anne Hagerty, an interior designer from Savannah, celebrated the opening of Abode, a fine home-furnishings store and interior design service, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Sept. 29 at 6 State of Mind St. in Bluffton.

Over the past two years, Hagerty had noticed an increase in Bluffton customers coming to her Savannah office. She said the new store, which had been unofficially open for a couple months before the ribbon-cutting, has had even more foot traffic and interest than originally anticipated.

The U.S. Census Bureau ranked Bluffton seventh among South Carolina’s cities and towns for raw numerical growth between 2014 and 2015 from its most recent data released May 2016.

“We felt like we could offer a service that wasn’t currently being provided here by having the retail and interior design services,” she said.

Hagerty said the retail store is a spot where people can come in and shop, whereas the full interior design services will help customers all the way through the building process to furnish their homes. She said she and her staff help customers select finishes, fixtures, furnishings and order from dozens of furniture lines.

“We do a lot of custom furniture, draperies for our clients,” she said. “And we take care of ordering, receiving, installing, doing everything, so it’s a completely turn-key service.”
