2nd man charged in Bluffton armed robbery

A second man was charged Friday in connection with a robbery outside a Bluffton bar last month that injured one of the victims.

Joseph "Joey" Grayson Ward, 23, of Bluffton was charged with felony strong-arm robbery by the Bluffton Police Department. The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office assisted in the case.

The robbery occurred at about 2:30 a.m. April 29 in a parking lot on Persimmon Street. The suspects began hitting two people in the parking lot, went through their pockets and stole $100 and a cellphone, police say.

One of the victims was transported to Coastal Carolina Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries to his jaw and lip.

Corey Leon Avery, 21, of Bluffton, was charged May 1 with felony strong-arm robbery in connection with the crime.

Ward's bond was set at $75,000.
