Port Royal police are looking for a man investigators say shot his ex-girlfriend in the face early Monday.

Stanley Moultrie, 29, of Burton was arguing with the woman outside her apartment in Oak Hill Terrace off Ribaut Road at about 5 a.m, said Staff Sgt. Andre Massey, police spokesman.

Massey said the argument became heated and Moultrie pulled out a handgun and fired two shots at the woman at close range, one of which struck her in the mouth.

Moultrie fled, and the woman was able to call 911 and was later transported to the Medical University of South Carolina, Massey said.

A hospital spokeswoman declined to provide an update on her condition Wednesday.

Anyone with information on Moultrie's whereabouts is asked to contact the Port Royal Police Department at 843-986-2220 or Beaufort County Dispatch Center at 843-524-2777.
