Bond set at $250,000 for ex-clerk accused of stealing $210,000 from Treasurer’s Office

Accused of stealing more than $210,000 from the Beaufort County Treasurer's Office, Casaundra White told Beaufort County Chief Magistrate Darlene Smith that it's all gone.

"I've got nothing," White said.

White's comments came during her bond hearing Thursday morning at the Beaufort County Detention Center, during which the former county employee said she had less than $125 to her name.

White was arrested Wednesday and charged with stealing more than $210,000 from public accounts by funneling money to dummy companies she and her ex-boyfriend allegedly set up.

Smith rejected White's claims and set her bond at $250,000.

"Considering the amount of money in question, whether it's gone or not, I don't know what you have access to," Smith said during the 20-minute proceeding.

White is scheduled to appear in court next on June 25.
