Sheriff's Office: Hilton Head man attacked by three suspects in apparent armed robbery attempt

A 21-year-old man was was beaten by three assailants in an attempted armed robbery early today at an apartment complex on the north end of Hilton Head Island, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office news release.

Just after midnight, deputies responded to an attempted-armed-robbery call from the Oaks Apartments at 400 William Hilton Parkway. When they arrived, the victim said he had been attacked by three unknown black males, according to the release.

The Sheriff's Office says the victim stated he was exiting his vehicle when he was approached by three black males, one of whom was armed with a handgun, another armed with a knife. The suspects demanded money, and when the victim said he did not have any, the suspects assaulted him. The victim was knocked to the ground and punched and kicked repeatedly. One suspect went through the victim’s pockets attempting to find his wallet.

Friends of the victim saw the attack and approached to help. All three suspects then fled on foot. The victim sustained only minor injuries and said nothing was stolen during the attack, according to the release.

The suspects were described as black males between the ages of 20 and 25, all about 6-foot. One suspect was described as wearing a black shirt, black pants and carrying a knife. The second suspect was armed with a handgun and was described as wearing a red shirt and black pants, and having long hair, a beard and a mustache. The third suspect was described as wearing a white shirt, black pants and a black do-rag on his head.
