Rescue crews have recovered the body of a 41-year-old Beaufort man early this morning who jumped from the Broad River bridge Tuesday.
Lt. Gentry Thames, spokesman for the Department of Natural Resources, said a boater was passing near the Broad River bridge at about 7:30 a.m. when he spotted something in the water. Crews from DNR and the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office later confirmed that the object the boater saw in the water was the body of 41-year-old Walter Earl Pinkney. Workers from DNR, the Coast Guard, and area fire departments had been combing the Broad River looking for Pinkney's body since the man leapt from the side of the bridge Tuesday.
