Though he’s back in Columbia after a two-week vacation with his family in Europe, Gov. Mark Sanford is not expected to make naming an interim Beaufort County clerk of court one of his first orders of business, a Sanford spokesman said today.
Ben Fox, spokesman for the governor, said that while Sanford’s office is actively “considering a number of recommendations” for candidates to temporarily replace former clerk Elizabeth Smith, he is not sure when the appointment would be made.
“We’d like to make this appointment sooner rather than later,” Fox said. “But there is no fixed timetable at this point.”
