On the run for about two weeks, a 45-year-old St. Helena man was arrested Monday and charged with aggravated criminal domestic violence after investigators say he assaulted a 40-year-old woman and her daughter on July 3 and pointed a rifle at them.
Calvin Chaplin was being held Monday in the Beaufort County Detention Center on $11,092.50 bond on one count of aggravated criminal domestic violence and one count of assault and battery.
Investigators say Chaplin got into an argument with a 40-year-old woman inside a home on Pearl Harbor Lane on July 3 and pushed her into a bedroom window, breaking it.
Chaplin also reportedly choked the woman’s 19-year-old daughter when she came to her mother’s aid and pointed a rifle at them when they attempted to contact authorities, said Cpl. Robin McIntosh, spokeswoman for the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.
