Fire damages Burton mobile home

Beaufort firefighters carefully combed a smoke-filled mobile home thismorning looking for the home's occupants before determining that there wasno one home.

Firefighters, Beaufort County Sheriff's deputies and paramedics fromBeaufort County EMS were called about 11 a.m. to the Pine Oaks MobileHome Park off Joe Frazier Road to reports of a structure fire.

Firefighters originally believed that people might have been trapped insidebut after about 20 minutes of searching concluded that there was no onehome, said Burton Fire Chief Harry Rountree.

Rountree said there was heavy smoke and heat throughout the trailer but hedid not believe the home would be a total loss.

Fire investigators have yet to determine what caused the fire, which isbelieved to have started near the home's front door.
