Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort is warning neighboring residents of increased jet noise tonight as one of the base’s squadrons prepares for an upcoming carrier deployment.
Pilots will conduct field carrier landing practices at the air station tonight from 5 to 7 p.m. and again from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m., according to the air station. Pilots will take turns landing on a small patch of the air station’s main runway to simulate landing on the deck of an aircraft carrier.
Although the training is noisy, the air station says it is essential for preparing pilots for the numerous day and night carrier landings they will perform during their deployment.
