Having folks trick-out their car trunks and fill them with treats for children -- instead of letting the little ones roam the streets, knocking on strangers' doors -- has become a Halloween tradition at some local churches.
On Wednesday, the First Baptist Church of Hilton Head Island sponsored a puppet show, followed by a Trunk or Treat at its "Light Up the Night with Jesus" event.
Light, compared to the darkness of traditional Halloween activities, was the theme just Wednesday across the Broad River at the Baptist Church of Beaufort's "Let There be Light Fall Festival." Free family oriented games and activities for all ages were held. In keeping with the family theme, both events requested participants wear non-scary costumes.

SPRING HILL AME CHURCH
Spring Hill AME Church will present its Fall Festival from 5 to 8 p.m. today in the church's parking lot. The carnival will have game booths, candy and prizes, face painting, a bounce house, music and a cake walk. At the close of the festival, all of the guests will receive a hot dog, chips and a drink. Candy, nachos, funnel cake, cotton candy, popcorn and candied apples will be for sale. The church is at 20 Paige Point Road, Sheldon (across from the post office).
