River Dog Brewing Co. in Ridgeland recently won two medals in the annual U.S. Open Beer Championship competition in Oxford, Ohio.

The competition had 90 beer style categories and 5,000 entrants from breweries around the world.

River Dog Brewing Co. won second place in the International Pilsner category for their Riverwalk Empire Classic American Pilsner and third place in the Imperial IPA category for their Force Ten Double IPA.

“We were really happy to have received these awards for our brews,” River Dog head brewer John Federal said in a press release. “The team ... is elated to get some national recognition.”

The Riverwalk Empire Pilsner can be found both on draft as well as in 12-ounce cans around the Hilton Head Island, Bluffton, and Charleston areas. The Force Ten Imperial IPA is brewed once a year at the beginning of summer.

River Dog Brewing Company is in the Riverwalk Industrial Park at 591 Browns Cove Road, Suite H in Ridgeland.

Other South Carolina breweries that brought home awards were Revelry Brewing and Tradesman Brewing, both in Charleston. For a list of winners, go to www.usopenbeer.com.
