What could be better than having fun outside and getting exercise at the same time? How about supporting a local nonprofit group that works to improve the lives of young people?
The fifth annual Pedal 4 Kids Community Ride will offer that and more to those who participate. The bicycling event is slated for Saturday and will benefit the Hilton Head Island Boys & Girls Club. It is open to all ages and skill levels.
"It's a great way for people to show their generosity," local biking advocate and Pedal 4 Kids founder Frank Babel said. "It's gotten a lot of people to get out and ride."
Participants may register as individuals or teams and choose from various routes around the island. They can ride 40, 25, 20 or 10 miles. And families with young children can choose to do the Family Fun Ride around Jarvis Creek Park. All rides will begin and end at Hilton Head Island High School but will start at different times.

TD Bank market executive Scott Sharp said his company decided to sponsor the event to show support for the Boys & Girls Club. As a father of two and a former teacher, he said he believes the organization gives children a safe place to go when they're not in school. Sharp said the club also gives the children the positive reinforcement they need.
"We're excited to be doing it," Sharp said about the bike ride. "And we're going to have fun."
