For BASH success

Bluffton Self Help's third annual BASH was held May 5 at Hampton Lake. Thanks to all who attended; it was our best yet and doubled last year's profit. This will help us continue to serve the 22,000 clients we have helped each of the past two years with food, clothing and financial aid.

We would especially like to thank Hargray, which again was our presenting sponsor.

Joining Hargray were 25 other companies and individuals who opted for various levels of cash sponsorships. Another five companies added in-kind donations.

Our success was also due to many merchants and individuals who gave us more than 130 items for our live and silent auctions. The quality and quantity of these items was definitely noticed by those who attended in past years.

With so many charity events in the Bluffton area throughout the year, our merchants should be recognized and patronized for their generosity to all.

Lastly, thanks to Linda Kaufman and her entire committee, who put in countless hours to make BASH a success, and to Christine Loeffler, who developed numerous marketing materials.

Now on to our HOPE campaign to raise funds for our badly needed new building that we have just announced. BASH has helped get the campaign off to a good start.

For a fun festival

On behalf of the David M. Carmines Foundation, we would like to extend our appreciation to all those who attended and participated in the Hilton Head Seafood Festival.

The events were very successful thanks to our contributing sponsors, the staff of all the participating restaurants, vendors and all who donated to our silent auction.

We want to thank our volunteers who provided many hours of service to the festival. We would also like to thank Pat Carey of Carey & Company, CPA, who has support the foundation at many levels.

The money raised will be donated to the American Cancer Society, the M.D. Anderson Cancer Research Center and the Island Recreation Association's scholarship fund. This will help many families throughout our community.

Circle April 28 on your calendar for next year's Hilton Head Seafood Festival. And don't forget about the annual tennis tournament to be held Nov. 18-20 at the Palmetto Dune's Tennis Center. We'll see you then.

For County Channel

I would like to applaud the wealth of information and knowledge we are now able to glean from The County Channel, which is also called The Marine Channel.

I have learned so very much about our Lowcountry, ranging anywhere from flora to fauna to local historic sites. It also enables me to follow our local school board and county politicians making the decisions that impact all of our lives.

My special thanks to Suzanne Larson and Gary Kubic for their hard and dedicated work as they continue to commit themselves to educating us all about this special place we live in such an interesting and enjoyable way.
