Packet Thank You Letters for Oct. 25

To league supporters

Palmetto Animal League is barking for joy after winning $20,000 in the Tom's of Maine "50 States for Good Program"! We thank the Lowcountry community for making it happen.

Patty Spina, a PAL volunteer writing grants for the organization, suggested we enter the Tom's of Maine charity challenge. A panel of nonprofit experts selected 41 organizations from all the submissions; the five generating the most daily online votes from Aug. 1 to Sept. 10 would each win $20,000.

Palmetto Animal League "competed" with nonprofit groups across the United States, many in large metropolitan areas. The fact that we made the top five signified the breadth of support for PAL and the desire to help Lowcountry animals. We are overwhelmed and overjoyed with the good news.

Thank you to our volunteers, loyal supporters, staff and board members who got their paws on their keyboards every day. Tom's of Maine shows us how businesses can be generous and supportive of grass-roots projects and charities. We applaud them for their continued efforts to give back.

The $20,000 will be used for the dog playroom in our new adoption center in Riverwalk. Dogs will be able to socialize with each other and with humans, continuing the training that their foster care experience provides, so they are ready for their future permanent homes. Come visit, volunteer, donate and spread the word: Palmetto Animal League's Adoption Center grand opening is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Fun, food, entertainment and sales -- all four were in great abundance at The Litter Box Thrift Store's five-year anniversary celebration.

No one could ask for a better area to live and work in than the Hilton Head Island and Bluffton communities. When there is a need, whether individually or collectively, folks step up to the plate to lend a hand.

Our fifth anniversary celebration at the Old Wild Horse Road location was a rip-roaring success thanks, in large part, to the contributions of the following businesses and entertainers:

Roastfish and Cornbread, Hudson's Seafood House on the Docks, Pizza Hut, Katie O'Donald's Irish Pub, Main Street Harris Teeter, Hilton Head Shell Gas Station, Carolina Seafood, The Fresh Market, Street Meet, Stellini Italian Restaurant, Chick-fil-A, San Miguel's, Di Vino, Palmetto Bay Food Lion, Morrison's Cafeterias, Badabings, Asian Bistro, Crazy Crab, Bella Italia Bistro and Pizzeria, Jim 'N Nick's Barbeque, Big Bamboo Café, Giuseppi's Pizza & Pasta, Gruby's New York Deli, Express Wok, Fat Baby's Pizza & Subs, Mangiamo, Festival Center's Publix, Larry's Giant Subs Shop, Panera Bread, Mum's The Word Florist, Celebration Supplies, Atlanta Bread Co., The Jammers, Drysdale Entertainment, Tradicion Latino Dance Group, Chuck Helton, Joanna Yarbrough and DoAmaral Dance Troop.
