Discarded objects given new life in upcoming Art League exhibit

Caroll Williams and Donna Varner are both interested in what others might discard -- rusted metal, old car parts, paint-peeling wood. They just have different ways of capturing that.

Williams' assemblage art and Varner's photography will be on display in "(arti)Fact & Fiction" from Wednesday to July 30 at the Art League of Hilton Head's Walter Greer Gallery in the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina.

Williams collects objects washed up on shore or found in city streets and assembles them in different forms. Varner takes photographs of found objects at close range and in still life.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday; 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday; noon to 4 p.m. Sunday; and before performances at the arts center. An artist reception is 5 to 7 p.m. July 7.
