A festival that's all about art

ore than 100 artists from all over the country will gather to sell their wares on Hilton Head Island over Memorial Day weekend.

The third annual Hilton Head Island Art Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 28 and 29 at Shelter Cove Harbour.

The festival is one of about 40 that Howard Alan Events holds nationwide. Alan relies on a pool of potters, jewelers, painters and others to stage shows that stretch from the East Coast to the Rocky Mountains. Most are held in large, outdoor settings, such as the Chicago Tribune Magnificent Mile Art Festival and the Downtown Aspen (Colo.) Art Festival.

About 150 artists are expected on Hilton Head, selling everything from $25 pair earrings to $30,000 metal sculptures.

Admission is free.
