Herd of Horses Meeting a Snapping Turtle for the First Time Has the Internet Cracking Up
If you've ever come across a Snapping Turtle, you know just how intimidating they can be. We lived in the Midwest for a few years and got used to seeing them from time to time, but when we found a huge one in our yard that looked like it had wandered straight out of the dinosaur age, none of us wanted to get anywhere near it.
Horses may be large, powerful animals, but even they can be completely baffled by something unfamiliar. In this hilarious video shared by Nikki Nelson, a herd of young, curious horses comes face-to-face with a Snapping Turtle and immediately begins investigating the strange little creature. What follows is a series of cautious approaches, dramatic retreats, and thoroughly confused stares that have viewers everywhere cracking up.

Nikki's family's laughter and commentary throughout the short clip had us cracking up! We wonder how long the horses stuck around, and how they finally got the Snapping Turtle out of there. Those things can be mean.
One commenter pointed out, "The kids screaming makes this 1,000 times funnier because it almost sounds like the horses all screamed, lol!" Their timing couldn't have been better!

Are Snapping Turtles Mean?
While Snapping Turtles will defend themselves if threatened, they aren't generally considered aggressive. Snapping Turtles spend most of their lives in the water, where they're typically calm, docile, and content to mind their own business. They're not considered a threat to swimmers and usually prefer to avoid confrontation altogether.
On land, however, they're a bit more vulnerable and can be considerably more defensive. The Forest Preserve District of Will County notes that the stories about Snapping Turtles having extremely powerful bites aren't just myths.
While they don't go around looking for trouble, they are capable of inflicting serious injuries (yes, they can and have bitten off fingers) if handled improperly or provoked.
