Kathryn Lynn Ashton of Beaufort and Henry Lawrence Medlin of Columbia were married May 14, 2011, at Sea Island Presbyterian Church in Beaufort.

The Rev. Ed Shuck and Pastor Steve Keeler performed the 5 p.m. ceremony. A reception followed at the Dataw Island Clubhouse.

The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Lynn Gustafson Ashton of Beaufort and the late Mr. William John Ashton. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Gustafson of Syracuse, N.Y., and the late Mr. and Mrs. William Ashton of New Bern, N.C. She graduated from The University of South Carolina in Columbia, where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism. She earned her Associates Degree in Nursing from Trident Technical College. She is employed by MUSC in Charleston, as a Registered Nurse. The bride was escorted by her uncle, David Ashton.

The groom is the son of Mrs. Judith Lawrence Medlin of Columbia and the late Mr. Carl Henry Medlin Jr. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Millard Luther Lawrence of Sumter and the late Mr. and Mrs. Carl Henry Medlin Sr. of Westminster.

He graduated from The University of South Carolina in Columbia where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Management. He is a Project Management Analyst at Science Applications International Corporation in North Charleston.

Maids of honor were Dr. Monique Mary Moona of Wilmington, N.C., and Miss Savannah Lynn Davidson of Arlington, Va. Attendants included the sister of thegroom, James Jefferson Jowers Jr. of Bamberg;; Miss Sarah McEachern, Miss Ashley Elisa Cooper and Miss Margaret Calhoun Henry, all of Beaufort; Mrs. Michael Williamson of Charlotte, N.C.; and Miss Jessica Ann Helms, Miss Nancy Sue Billard and Miss Megan Lindley Smith, all of Charleston.

Niece of the groom, Miss Muriel Jean Jowers of Bamberg, was the junior bridesmaid; and cousin of the groom, Ava James of Westminster, served as flower girl.

Mr. Clayton Ronald Sharpe of Columbia, served as best man. Groomsmen were Mr. Rocky Allen Baker of Greenville; Mr. Joseph Oren Retzer of Camden; Mr. CharlesBarnes Stout Jr. of Chattanooga, Tenn.; Mr. Charles Clinton Locklear of Charleston; Mr. Claude Maxwell Humphries of Columbia; and Mr. James Jefferson JowersJr. of Bamberg.

Following a honeymoon to the Dominican Republic, the couple will reside in Charleston.
