Hello, and welcome to the Lowcountry!

If it's your first time here, we hope you find Beaufort charming and full of natural beauty. If you're returning to the area for another vacation here, well, then, congratulations - you've figured out that this part of the South Carolina coast is indeed a gem worth exploring again.

As you walk around downtown Beaufort's tree-lined streets and admire the many historic homes, you might think, "This looks like a movie set." The town and its environs have been the backdrop for several major motion pictures, including "Forrest Gump," "The Big Chill," "Forces of Nature" and "The Prince of Tides."

But there is much more to see than downtown Beaufort. This guide is designed to help you explore all corners and all facets of the Lowcountry.

Take a kayak trip through the marsh, or enjoy an offshore fishing adventure for wahoo or sailfish. See a show, visit the many art galleries in the area, or take a walking tour or carriage tour.

Hit the beach at Hunting Island State Park, enjoy some local seafood and be sure to set aside some time to kick back on a wide front porch with a cold drink (or ice cream cone) and relax. This is perhaps the best amenity we offer.

Enjoy your stay, and come back to see us again soon.

Staff at the Beaufort Regional Chamber of Commerce's Visitor & Convention Bureau helped with the content of this guide.
