Romance is about the senses,and Skillets Grill & Cafe onHilton Head Island delivers thesights, sounds and aromas for aspecial meal. Whether for breakfaston Valentine's Day, a leisurelyweekend brunch or quick workday lunch date, Skillets ownerAmie Baima and her staff set thestage.

A perfect morning might includea stroll on the beach at ColignyBeach Park, then breakfast andcoffee at Skillets. In addition tobreakfast combinations served inindividually sized porcelain skillets,the restaurant serves omelets,crepes, eggs benedict, pancakesand variations of French toast.

Try the crepes made withfresh strawberries, topped withwhipped cream and dusted withpowdered sugar, or the bananasfoster buttermilk pancakes garnished withfresh sliced bananas ($7.95). Skillets alsooffers fluffy, healthy whole grain pancakes.

Or as Amie Baima says, do the unexpectedand bring your Valentine to Skilletsfor lunch. Chef Javier Mendez is especiallyproud of his elegant Seafood Newberg,which is pan seared shrimp, scallops andtilapia in a cream sherry sauce and toppedwith a puff pastry ($11.95).

For a lighter meal, take pleasure in asalad of parmesan encrusted grilled chickenbreast with seasoned pecans over mixedspring greens.

A special meal deserves dessert, andSkillet's strawberry tres leches ($5.95) isan exuberant interpretation of the popularLatin American sweet.

Local restaurants typically take a breakduring winter's slower season, returningwith new offerings in the early spring.Skillets has reopened for dinner on Thursday,Friday and Saturday nights, with earlydining specials from 5-6:30 p.m. In additionto the regular menu, nightly dinner specialsemphasize fresh ingredients and creativepreparation. The restaurant's entrees areaffordable homestyle meals prepared andserved by people who enjoy what they do.

Skillets is family friendly. There's a children'smenu for breakfast, lunch and dinner.In the outdoor seating area, dogs arewelcome and Skillets even has a dog menufeaturing Lucky Dog entrees.
