Here's what we know about the new Christian soap opera 'Hilton Head Island'

PureFlix, a Christian entertainment company, is hard at work making the world’s first faith-based soap opera, and guess where it’s set!

“Hilton Head Island” has been greenlit for a 22 episode run on the company’s PureFlix digital platform (think Netflix, but for God). The show will star Antonio Sabato Jr. (“The Bold and the Beautiful”), Donna Mills (“Knots Landing”), Michael Swan (“As the World Turns”) and renowned game show host Wink Martindale, according to Christian news site Faith Wire.

PureFlix CEO Greg Gudorf addressed the issues that stem from building a Christian show in a format known for salacious storytelling while speaking on PureFlix’s faith-based talk show “Pure Talk”.

“Traditionally soap operas have over-emphasized certain parts to be able to play to an audience,” he told panelists. “The underlying drama and the underlying story can be told without that emphasis. And maybe there’s even an entry for the more typical prayer life or christian aspect flowing in as part of that drama.”

So, what type of tawdry shenanigans can residents of Hilton Head Island expect to see in the soap opera that bears their town’s name? Will someone flirt with Unitarianism or forget to say grace before dinner? Unfortunately, details of the soap are under wraps as Gudorf said on “Pure Talk” that he wants people to “see it fresh” when it is released.

According to Internet Movie Database, the show did not film on Hilton Head Island, opting for Los Angeles instead.

“Hilton Head Island” will debut on PureFlix’s streaming service this fall.
