The Historic Beaufort Foundation's annual Lafayette Soiree will be at 6:30 p.m. April 5 at the Elizabeth Barnwell Gough house, 705 Washington St. The theme is "April in Paris," and the grounds of the historic home will be transformed into an 18th century French market.
The Lafayette Soiree is a yearly celebration honoring the Marquis de Lafayette, the famous French aristocrat and military officer who served as a Major General under George Washington during the Revolutionary War.
In 1825, Lafeyette spoke at the Verdier House in Beaufort and a ball was held in honor of his exploits in support of the U.S.
Gary Lang and Beth Shaw from Breakwater Restaurant & Bar, Lantz Price from Saltus River Grill, and Beaufort Bread Company's Rick Stone will preparing special thematic dishes for the event. The Old Bull Tavern will also be among the restaurants represented.
