ALLAGASH, Maine

Residents of the Maine town of Allagash are pushing back against outsiders using their town's name for marketing purposes.

The Bangor Daily News reports residents aired their grievances after it was announced that a movie titled "Allagash" would be filmed in western Maine.

The Portland Press Herald previously reported filmmakers cited the town's remoteness, extreme weather and lack of Wi-Fi access as reasons for their filming location.

Lifelong resident Colleen Jackson says while there's no doubt western Maine is beautiful, "it's not Allagash."

The film's writer and director John Barr is a southern Maine native and says he is committed to the setting's authenticity.

Other notable brands with the town's name include Allagash Brewing Co.

The dry town neither brews the beer nor serves it.
