St. Helena Island native Candice Glover will perform in the Top 7 Wednesday night on "American Idol," which airs on Fox from 8 to 10 p.m.

This week's theme is "Classic Rock, No Ballads." Glover has already tackled one rock song this season when she sang The Beatles' "Come Together" in the Top 9.

The genre was different from the soulful R&B singer's usual playbook, but the judges thought rock fit her just fine.

"I love seeing you in this whole other vibe going on tonight," judge Keith Urban said after that performance. "It's sort of like the rock chick side of you that was really cool tonight."

Judge Randy Jackson even commended Glover on singing more than just slower songs.

"I was so happy to hear you doing up-tempo, because a lot of singers like you, with big voices, are always doing ballads and so people think people with big voices can't do up-tempo records," Jackson said. "You can own it because you got it."
