LoCo Motion

The nonprofit breast cancer organization Carolina Cups will host LoCo Motion, a three-day walk/run Sept. 30 through Oct. 2 on the beaches of Hilton Head Island and in old town Bluffton. Participants will walk or run a different 10-mile course each day for a total of 30 miles. The event will benefit several regional cancer organizations, including Beaufort Memorial's Keyserling Cancer Center, Beaufort Jasper Hampton Comprehensive Care and the Hollings Cancer Center at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. BNC Bank and local Rotary clubs lunch

BNC Bank and local Rotary clubs will offer lunch by Barrier Island Barbecue from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 30 at the bank drive-thru near Pineland Station on Hilton Head Island. Cost is $10, and deliveries are available. Money raised benefits the five-club local Rotary drive and the Coastal Empire Polio Association in support of the upcoming Heel To Toe Polio walk on the beach on Oct. 8. "Tennis in the Pink"

The Women's Tennis Organization of Sun City's annual charity event, "Tennis in the Pink," will be held at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 1 at the tennis courts in Sun City Hilton Head. A lunch will be held at noon in the pavilion. The event is open to all Sun City residents and their guests. Donations will go to the breast cancer nonprofit organization Carolina Cups. Cost is $30 for tennis and lunch or $15 for lunch only. Carolina Cups will host its own fundraiser, LoCo Motion, Sept. 30 through Oct. 2 on the beaches of Hilton Head Island and in old town Bluffton. Puppy Plunge

The YMCA of Beaufort County will host a free Puppy Plunge from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 1. After the kickoff event, dogs of all breeds and sizes are welcome to attend Puppy Plunge events on the first Saturday of each month until the spring. Cost is $5 a dog, and all proceeds benefit the "Learn to Swim" program at the YMCA. Dogs must be well-behaved, current on all required vaccines and on a leash until inside the pool area. Owners must be present at all times, and humans are not permitted to swim in the Puppy Plunge. Details: 843-522-9622

Shrimp Festival

The 17th annual Beaufort Shrimp Festival will be held Friday Sept. 30 and Saturday Oct. 1 at Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park in downtown Beaufort. School tours will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Craft Market opens at noon, food and beverage booths open at 6 p.m. and live music will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday. Palmetto Animal League Thrift Grand Opening

Palmetto Animal League Thrift (formerly Animal House Thrift) has moved to 1B Sherrington Drive in Sheridan Park in Bluffton. Palmetto Animal League will host a grand opening at the new location Oct. 1 featuring special discounts and refreshments. The store is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. "A Paw Prints Event"

"A Paw Prints Event" will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 1 at the Hilton Head Humane Association, 10 Humane Way, on Hilton Head Island. Friends of the Library Hilton Head is holding a children's book drive for Toys for Tots at the shelter. Everyone that brings a book will be entered into a drawing for a $50 gift certificate for SERG restaurants. Author Kathryn Wall will be signing books from noon to 2 p.m. Refreshments will be provided. Also, visitors are welcome to meet the shelter's dogs and cats. Details: www.hhhumane.org
