The USC Beaufort men's cross country team had a strong showing Saturday in the Disney World Cross Country Classic in Orlando, Fla., as the Sand Sharks finished eighth out of 25 teams in a field that was halfway full of NCAA Division I programs.

On a hot and humid day, the Sand Shark men had the highest finish of any NAIA school, even beating a couple of teams that were nationally ranked.

"Our men ran their best race of the year, by far," coach Larry Kimball said.

Stephen Wilson led the way, clocking a time of 27 minutes, 21 seconds and placing 26th out of 205 runners. Nic Tones also came in under 28 minutes, placing 39th.

The USCB women finished 25th out of 31 teams.

Katie Mock was the top USCB woman, posting a time of 21:25 to place 91st.

The Sand Sharks will compete at Jasper Park on Wednesday against Armstrong Atlantic State before traveling to Louisville on Oct. 24 for the Southeast Classic.
