FERREES TO SPEAK AT ATHLETIC CLUB MEETING
The Athletic Club of the Lowcountry will hold its next meeting Sept. 8 at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Bluffton.
Social time begins at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting starts at 7 p.m. The featured speakers will be S.C. Golf Hall of Fame members Jim and Karen Ferree of Hilton Head Island.
Jim is a long time golf professional on the PGA and Champions tours. He was club professional for many years at Long Cove Country Club.
Karen has been an outstanding golfer and leader for women's golf for more than 40 years. Karen played in three U.S. Women's Amateurs, three U.S. Women's Opens, three Women's Mid-Amateurs and 10 U.S. Senior Women's Amateurs.
After their presentation, there will be a question-and-answer period. Members and guests are invited to attend this meeting. There will not be a guest fee.
The Athletic Club of the Lowcountry meets the second Monday of each month except for December and the summer months. New members are always welcome.

LITERACY CENTER, BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS TO HOST GOLF TOURNAMENT
The Literacy Center and the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Lowcountry will hold a charity golf tournament for women Oct. 27 at Island West Golf Club in Bluffton.
The Links Fore Literacy Women's Charity Golf Tournament, exclusive to women, will cost $50 per person and $200 per team. The fee includes a continental breakfast, practice range, greens fee, cart, awards reception and prizes, the release said.
Proceeds from the event will benefit both organizations and their missions to improve literacy in the Lowcountry, the release said. Businesses can also sponsor the event at different levels.

YMCA HOLDING FLAG FOOTBALL REGISTRATION
The YMCA of Beaufort County is holding flag football registration for youth ages 4 to 9 through Monday.
Cost is $50 for members and $60 for non-members. Practice time and games for 4- to 5-year-olds is 6 to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays. Practice time and games for 6- to 7-year-olds are 6 to 7 p.m. on Mondays. Practice time for 8-to 9-year-olds is 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday with games on Saturdays.

AREA PLAYERS WANTED FOR ALUMNI FOOTBALL GAMES
Area players are still needed for a pair of full-contact, high school-rules alumni football games to be hosted by Alumni Football USA.
The company is hosting a game between the alumni of Hilton Head Island and Bluffton, as well as Beaufort High and Battery Creek. Times, dates and location have not been set, though several practice times have.
Bluffton alumni will practice at 6 p.m. Sunday at Oscar Frazier Park in Bluffton, while Hilton Head Island alumni will practice at 7 p.m. Saturday at Hilton Head Middle School.
Only the first 40 players will be given roster spots for their respective schools. Equipment is supplied. There are fundraising opportunities, as well.
