BILL VERITY CUP: What: Annual Pro-Am event to benefit Beaufort Area Boys & Girls Clubs; When: 1 p.m., April 29; Where: Sanctuary Golf Club on Cat Island; Format: Shamble (Texas Scramble); Cost: $125 per person or $500 per team of four amateurs and one pro; Notes: Players may invite a pro to play on their team, or a pro will be provided. BCSO SPRING TOURNAMENT: What: Beaufort County Sherriff's Office tournament; Where: The Legends at Parris Island; When: 12:30 p.m., May 17 (registration 10:30 a.m.); Format: Four-man captain's choice; Cost: $65 per player; Notes: Tournament raises funds to help pay for the BCSO Appreciation Dinner. Prizes for the top 3 teams. Refreshments, door prizes, mulligans, and hole-in-one, closest to the pin and longest drive prizes. Sponsorship opportunities available. BEAUFORT COUNTY GAMECOCK CLASSIC: When: 9 a.m., June 8; Where: Sanctuary Golf Club at Cat Island, Beaufort; Format: 4-person scramble, Captain's Choice; Cost: $100 per player; Notes: Gift bag, awards lunch, on-course beverages, hole contests and prizes. BEAUFORT COUNTY PALS AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM: What: Registration for Beaufort County Parks and Leisure Services After-School Program; Who: Kindergarten through fifth grade; Where: Burton Wells Recreation Center in Beaufort and Buckwalter Recreation Center in Bluffton; Cost: $75 per month, extra fees will apply for full days of after-school care when school is not in session. Notes: The program is from 3-6 p.m. on school days, and includes homework assistance, arts & crafts, snacks and recreation. PUBLIX LOWCOUNTRY ROOTS ROCK & REGGAE RUN: What: Inaugural 5K, 10K and 15K races; When: 5 p.m., May 11; Where: Hilton Head Lakes, Hardeeville; Cost: 5K and 10K are $30; 15K race is $45; Notes: A percentage of proceeds from the event will benefit Palmetto Animal League and another local charity. The 5K Roots Run starts at 5 p.m. and the 10K Rock Run starts at 6 p.m. The 15K Reggae Run will be a combined time of the 5K and 10K. Participants running the 15K receive a tie dye and a tech T-shirt. All other runners receive a tech T-shirt. After the races, an awards ceremony and Sunsplash Party will be held in honor of Bob Marley. The party will feature live reggae music from Patwa, refreshments, beer, a Bob Marley look-alike contest, and more. The party is open to the public. Food and beverages will be for sale.
