FOOTBALL WRITER TO SPEAK AT PENN STATE LUNCHEON
John Black, who has written Penn State's "The Football Letter" for 37 years, will be the guest speaker at the Penn State Alumni Lowcountry Chapter's annual luncheon on March 30 at Country Club of Hilton Head.
Black will provide updates on the football program as well as other sports and will speak about the current university scene. Black, who attended Penn State from 1958 to 1962, was editor of The Daily Collegian for two years. Before joining the Alumni Association staff, he was a civil rights reporter and United Nations correspondent for the United States Information Agency in Washington and New York from 1962 to 1970.
Attendees do not need to be members of the alumni association. Cost of the luncheon is $19.

BEAUFORT MASTERS 3RD AT STATE MEET
The Beaufort Masters Swim Team placed third over the weekend in the South Carolina Masters State Championship in North Myrtle Beach, finishing behind the Grand Strand Masters (North Myrtle Beach) and Palmetto Masters (Charleston). Teams from Hilton Head Aquatics and Bluffton also participated in the meet.
John Youmans set nine state records and Bonnie Downs added three more to lead the Beaufort Masters. Youmans, Downs, Amanda Babbit and Pete Palmer were High Point winners for Beaufort, leading their age groups in points scored.
DJ Murray set a state record in the 1650 freestyle to lead the Hilton Head group. Also finishing first for Hilton Head was Rick Williams (200 Breastrroke).
Barbara Eisele won all her events for Bluffton for the High Point award in her age division.

LOW COUNTRY BLACKTIP TEAMS DO WELL IN COLUMBIA
The Low Country Blacktip Volleyball Club's under-16 team brought home a silver medal from the Columbia Mizuno Tournament at the University of South Carolina this weekend.
Members of the U16 team are: Bekka Parent, Haley Matousek, Jacqueline Tobin, Savannah Malphrus, Ashley Grace Novak, Rowan Baltzley, Stevie DeSimone, Julia Baker and Lauren Kendrick. The team is coached by Genia Edelman, Jessica Howard and Steve DeSimone.
The club's U15 also participated in the tournament, winning the silver division in their bracket. Members of the U15 squad are: Mikaela Galm, Alexa Paige, Jayla Hutcheson, Rebecca Thompson, Hannah Thompson, Jacie Millen, Raili Burton and Rachel Thompson. The team is coached by Marianne Marcantonio, Stacy Hutcheson and Dave Galm.
