SPARKLERS' SHANNON QUALIFIES FOR REGIONAL GYMNASTICS MEET
Sports Academy's Hannah Shannon finished fourth in the all-around competition at last weekend's SAG Level 5-10 state gymnastics meet in Rock Hill, qualifying her for the upcoming USAG Region 8 meet in Florida.
Shannon, 15, posted a score of 35.45 in the Level 9 all-around competition at Winthrop University. She had a 9.25 in the vault, winning a silver medal, was fourth on the balance beam and eighth on the uneven parallel bars.
Shannon, a two-time regional qualifier at Level 8 for the Sparklers, will be competing in the Level 9 regional April 13-15 in Bradenton, Fla. Competitors from eight states in the Southeast will be participating.

In the Level 6, 10-year-old age group, Sports Academy's Kyleigh Easler placed eighth on vault. In the Level 5 Novice 13-and-over division, Blair Scherr placed third on vault, and fourth on bars and floor exercise. In the Level 5 Open 11-year-old division, Lauren Angus finished fourth on floor and eighth on beam.
HILTON HEAD RUGBY CLINCHES PLAYOFF SPOT
The Hilton Head Rugby Club defeated the Golden Isles Hammerheads of Brunswick, Ga., 48-8 on Saturday to secure a playoff spot. The Gators will play a road game against the Athens (Ga.) Rugby Club for a chance to advance to the USA Rugby South Championship.
Scoring tries Saturday for Hilton Head were Brandon Miller, Garrett Lepak, Josh Kirby and Scott Wild. Neal Turner converted four of eight kicks in the win.
WEEK OF CHAMPIONS RETURNS IN JUNE
The annual Week of Champions, a week of free sports clinics with Christian professional athletes in attendance, will take place June 11-15.
Clinics in football, soccer, basketball, baseball, tennis, golf and cheerleading will be held on Hilton Head Island. In addition, football, soccer and baseball clinics will be held at Bluffton High School.
In addition to getting a chance to work with the pros, participating children will receive free T-shirts at the clinics.
