    Rail Trip, ridden by Jose Valdivia, Jr., took command at the top of the stretch and sailed to victory in Saturday's $700,000 Hollywood Gold Cup at Hollywood Park. The four-year-old gelding recorded his fourth win of the year out of six starts.

    Local runner Atomic Rain took control down the stretch to capture Saturday's $175,000 Long Branch Stakes at Monmouth Park. The 1 1/16 mile race for three-year-olds is the final prep before next month's $1 million Haskell Invitational.
  • Eclipse winner Lawyer Ron euthanized
    Lawyer Ron, the 2007 champion older male thoroughbred, has been humanely destroyed because of complications following surgery. Stonewall Farm Stallion, where the stallion was living, made the announcement on Saturday.
