Area high school football fans have the opportunity to cast their vote for The Island Packet/Beaufort Gazette High School Football Player of the Week for Week 9.
This week’s candidates are:
Stephon Eugene, Whale Branch — Rushed for three touchdowns (12, 1, 11) as the Warriors clinched a share of the Region 6-AA title.
Nyles Pinckney, Whale Branch — Forced a fumble and recovered two more for the Warriors.
Craven Howard, Ridgeland-Hardeeville — Ran for a score and returned an interception for a touchdown as the Jaguars defeated Barnwell to grab share of region lead.
Tyler Hamilton, Hilton Head High — 19 carries for 113 yards rushing, TD; five catches for 53 yards in loss to Orangeburg-Wilkinson.
Clay Melville, Beaufort Academy — 264 yards passing and five touchdowns during Eagles’ loss to Andrew Jackson.
Chris Edwards, Hilton Head Christian — 232 yards rushing and two scores during victory over St. Andrews.
The fans’ vote counts as one of the five votes tallied, joining sports editor Mike McCombs, assistant sports editor Stephen Fastenau, sports reporter Kendall Salter and copy editor Barry Haapala.
The winner is announced each Thursday during the IPBG High School Football podcast.
