Jeffrey Tookes ran for two touchdowns and a 2-point conversion and Keaton Butler caught a touchdown pass from Courtney Piatt, but it wasn't enough to keep Beaufort High from suffering its first loss to Colleton County, 32-20, since 2006.
"They have a pretty good ball team," Eagles head coach Mark Clifford said. "A lot of guys have been there since 10th grade."
Clifford said Piatt performed well in his first start at quarterback and "Keaton had some good plays.
On the defense, which Clifford said performed well, Nathan Parker had an interception and Malcolm Simmons forced a fumble and made a recovery.
Clifford said the Eagles (0-1) simply made too many mistakes on offense to win.
"Effort-wise, it was good enough to win," Clifford said. "But there were too many mistakes.
"We'll learn from it and go back to work."
