Ashley Ridge 17, Beaufort High 12
The Beaufort High School football team lost a tough game at home to Ashley Ridge, 17-12, and saw their Class 4-A playoff hopes fade away Friday night.
"We came out and did something we didn't do last week," Eagles coach Mark Clifford said. "We came out and played the first quarter."
The Eagles (3-6 overall, 0-3 region) needed to win their remaining three Region 8-AAAA games to secure a playoff spot. Clifford said his team played hard but just couldn't get any momentum or any breaks.
Never miss a local story.
"Offensively we had some opportunities," Clifford said. "We missed a fourth-down conversion early, we had a long screen pass that was brought back and we had a long punt return brought back. We just need to get some confidence back."
Clifford said this loss was painful for him and his players.
"I feel bad for them. They worked hard, and because of how we did this week and how hard and all the efforts, out of the six losses, this is the one that hurts the kids the worst," Clifford said. "We have to find something positive to cap the season. If we can pull out two good wins after all we've been through this year, we could teach them a great lesson about life. I think these kids would learn something."
