Hilton Head Island 36, Whale Branch 23: Kamryn Jackson and Da’Nesha Miller led a second-half surge as Hilton Head Island ended a 21-month dry spell between girls’ basketball victories.
The Seahawks trailed by one at halftime, but found their rhythm to outscore Whale Branch 26-12 after the break. The program had not tasted victory in 663 days, going back to the 2015 home finale that marked longtime coach Dave Greenberg’s final home game.
“We fought through an 0-23 season last year, so we’ve been waiting on the opportunity to get back on the court,” Seahawks coach Sean Rochester said. “We improved so much last season regardless of our record, and put in hours this offseason – and tonight we had a long overdue celebration in the locker room.”
Jackson finished with 12 points for Hilton Head, Miller scored eight and freshman Jasmine Campbell added six.
