Bluffton's Sophia Burnett fired a sizzling 7-under-par 65 to claim medalist honors and lead the Bobcats to a share of the team title Monday at the Class 3A Lower State girls' golf championship at Diamondback Golf Course in Loris.
Camila Burnett, Sophia’s younger sister, carded a 73 as the Bobcats finished even with Bishop England atop the leaderboard with matching scores of 314. May River also qualified for next week’s state tournament, placing fourth with a total of 351.
Sophia Burnett took the individual crown by one stroke over Oceanside Collegiate’s Gabriela Martinez, with no one else within three strokes. Camila Burnett finished sixth among individuals, one shot behind Bishop England top scorer Kathleen Sumner.
Kathryn Thorne paced May River with a 79, while Molly Minasi carded an 84 and Brooke Larson posted 86. Bluffton’s Kayla McIntyre carded an 83.
