Hilton Head Island High School closed out its season with an emphatic 63-0 win over R.B. Stall on Senior Night, salvaging a disappointing finish that will leave coach B.J. Payne's team short of the playoffs.
Despite not reaching its ultimate goals, Hilton Head Island High (5-5, 1-4 Region 8-AAA) was able to celebrate against an overmatched Stall, scoring 35 points in the second quarter to break things open.
Hilton Head High senior Aaron Frazier took the second-half kickoff back for a touchdown.
"They went out and played hard," Payne said of his team. "We wanted the seniors to go out with a win."
Bolstered by an interception and blocked punt from John Baty, the dormant Seahawks offense finally found some rhythm after several slow weeks. Quarterback Aidan Hegarty threw for a pair of touchdowns and running back Tyler Hamilton added two more on 159 yards rushing.
Payne said his team would learn some valuable lessons from this season, and said the senior class has paved the way to continue building the program.
"The one thing that I emphasized is this senior class never missed a workout," Payne said. "They kept persevering. What a great example for our young kids that they were able to set."
