Jenny Mullins was stellar in the circle and Beaufort High pushed across two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to key the Eagles 5-4 win over No. 1 and previously unbeaten Summerville on Wednesday at Beaufort.
"Our ladies played their best on every pitch of the game and never gave up," Beaufort High coach Doug Plank said. "They proved just what we have been telling them, that they are capable of beating any team in the state if they stay focused and put it together. They did that for sure tonight, and we are very proud of them."
Mullins surrendered seven hits while striking out four and walking two for Beaufort High (8-7, 3-3 Region 8-AAAA).
Freshman Savannah Mullins had three hits for the Eagles, while Natalie Moore and Chelsea Welty each had two.

With Beaufort High trailing 4-3, Molly Clark walked to lead off the bottom of the sixth and Jenny Mullins sacrificed her to second. Natalie Moore followed with another walk to set the table for Savannah Mullins and Chelsea Welty, who each rapped RBI singles to give the Eagles a 5-4 lead.
In the top half of the seveth, Jenny Mullins gave up a single to the lead-off hitter and then threw a wild pitch, allowing her to advance to second. But she settled down, striking out the next batter and induced the next two hitters to ground out.
Bluffton (10-1, 6-1 Region 8-AAAA) now has a slight lead on Summerville (5-1) in region play. They face each other on Friday at Bluffton.
Bluffton 12, Colleton County 0: Courtney Smith struck out six, allowing just one hit for Bluffton (8-1, 6-1 Region 8-AAAA).
Kim Kerby, Mikyla Houghlan and Morganne Parker each had two of the Bobcats 11 hits.
The Bobcats host Summerville at 7 p.m. on Friday.
James Island 1, Hilton Head Island 0: Whitney Halley struck out seven and allowed no earned runs in a complete-game effort for the Seahawks (4-7).
Kaitlin Buckalew, Hunter Walston and Olivia Workman each had a hit against James Island.
The Bobcats play a doubleheader Thursday at Stall.
JV: Beaufort High 5, Summerville 4
Beaufort High 4, Summerville 1: Bradley Brown threw a complete-game to earn the big win for the Eagles (9-3, 4-2 Region 8-AAAA).
Brown struck out two, walked none and scattered eight hits.
At the plate, Brady Cormier was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, while Jesse Sanborn was 2 for 3 with a double.
JV: Beaufort High 6, Summerville 3
Hilton Head Island 3, James Island 0: Mat Clark pitched a complete-game four-hitter, striking out 10 without walking a batter to move to 4-0 on the season.
John Good had a two-run single in the first for the Seahawks (9-4, 6-2 Region 8-AAA), and Carmen Mlodzinski went 2 for 2, driving in a run in the sixth with a single.
Brandon Johnson went 3 for 4, as well, against James Island (7-6, 4-2).
The Seahawks host a doubleheader with Corbin, Ky. at 5 p.m. Friday
Hilton Head Prep 2, Pinewood Prep 1: The Dolphins rallied with a pair of runs in the sixth inning to make a winner of Tyler Fox, who scattered seven hits in a complete game.
Greg Warren was 3 for 3 with an RBI to lead the Dolphins at the plate. Cem Caglayan 1 for 3 with a stolen base and a run scored, and James Leonard went 1 for 3 with a double and a run.
Fox finished with five strikeouts for Prep (12-2 overall, 6-1 region), which plays at Porter-Gaud at 5 p.m. Friday.
Thomas Heyward Academy 8, Dorchester Academy 7, 8 innings: Evan Duncan's single with no one out in the bottom of the eighth scored Seth Jones to give the Rebels the extra-inning win.
Conner Driscoll was 3 for 4 with an RBI at the plate. He also pitched the eighth inning for win. Blake Bannon was 2 for 4.
The Rebels (7-3) host Hilton Head Christian Academy for a 5 p.m. doubleheader on Friday.
Hilton Head Christian 5, First Baptist 3: Luke Higgs blasted two solo home runs and pitched a complete game to lead the Eagles past First Baptist.
Higgs allowed three earned runs, three hits and one walk while striking out three over seven innings of work to earn the win.
HHCA's other runs came on a two-run double by Logan Toomer and a sacrifice fly by Alex Cooler.
HHCA (2-6, 2-4 SCISAA Region 3-AAA) plays a 5 p.m. doubleheader Friday at Thomas Heyward Academy.
Battery Creek 4, Corbin (Ky.) 1: The Dolphins scored all four of their runs in the first inning and Zach Mahan and the defenese did the rest.
Mahan threw a complete game, striking out five and walking just two, all while scattering 10 hits. Aaron Brantley was 2 for 3 to lead the Dolphins at the plate.
Battery Creek (8-4) travels to Garrett Tech on Thursday and will play Burke following that game.
Bishop England 4, Hilton Head Island 3: The Seahawks (7-2) lost a tough match that came down to the No. 1 doubles match as a tiebreaker. Hilton Head Island hosts Berkeley at 4 p.m. Friday.

Bluffton 153, Beaufort High 158, Summerville 169: Drew Weary shot a 37 to lead a balanced Bluffton lineup to a win at Island West. Weary was one of four Bobcats to card a 40 or better.
Low medalist was Beaufort's Josh Fickes with a 36.
Bluffton will host another match at 3 p.m. Thursday at Island West against Hilton Head Island High, Hilton Head Prep, Hilton Head Christian and Whale Branch.

Cori Leonard, Foster Willey and Kate Herman also scored goals for Prep (6-6 overall, 4-3 region). Herman, Marisa Wojciekiewicz and Meagan Frederick split time in goal.
