Chapin defeated Hilton Head Island High, 15-9, in the first round of the state girls lacrosse playoffs Tuesday night in Chapin.
"The girls played a really tough game," Hilton Head Island coach Kathy Marshall said. "We made some mistakes early on that we were digging out of, and there might have been some nerves early on. But our goalie was outstanding, and our girls never gave up."
Three quick goals at the end of the fourth quarter made the final score look a lot more lopsided than it really was.
Carson Kendrick led the Seahawks (9-5) with four goals, while Kirsten Wartko added two.

Tristyn Sheaffer, Katie Batista and Savannah Reier each had single goals. Shyra Valdez made 19 stops in goal for Hilton Head Island.
"She played out of her mind," Marshall said of Valdez. "I'm really proud of my girls and how hard they worked out there."
Hilton Head Christian Academy 5, Porter-Gaud 1: The Eagles scored four goals after halftime to run away with the win.
Abigail Bensch scored two goals, and Stevie DeSimone and Alyssa Lane scored one goal for Hilton Head Christian (7-2 overall, 6-1 region). Porter-Gaud also gave the Eagles an own goal.
Audrey Bensch and Hannah Reynolds had assists for the Eagles, who host Beaufort Academy at 4 p.m. Friday.
Beaufort High 5, Colleton County 1: Carmen Alvarez and Elise Dean scored two goals each as the Eagles cruised to the win.
Bella Kimbrell added a goal and an assist for Beaufort High (8-6-1 overall, 3-1 Region 8-AAAA). Alvarez and Paulina Dixon also had assists, and goalkeeper Kayley Gilbert made two saves.
The Eagles play at Bluffton on Friday.
Beaufort Academy 6, Bible Baptist 1: Jack Dailey scored a pair of goals to lead the Eagles to the win.
Clay Melville, Nicky Macuch, Reyn Robinson and Walker Floyd had one goal apiece for Beaufort Academy (8-4 overall, 3-1 SCISAA Region 2-AA).
Bluffton 2, Ashley Ridge 1: Courtney Smith pitched a two-hitter, striking out nine while leading the Bobcats to a Region 8-AAAA victory.
Kim Kerby's two-run single in the bottom of the fifth inning accounted for the Bobcats' only runs. Jordyn Parker went 2 for 3 with a triple for Bluffton (7-1 overall, 5-1 region), which finished with five hits as a team.
Bluffton is back in action Wednesday at Colleton County.
Hilton Head Island 152, Battery Creek 259, Whale Branch n/a: Brook Dyess and Charles Farrell each shot a 37 to tie for medalist honors and lead Hilton Head High to a victory Tuesday at Lady's Island Country Club.

SCISAA Region 3-AAA match: Trace Crowe shot a 2-under-par 70 at Pine Forest Country Club in Summerville to lead the Hilton Head Christian Academy boys to a win in a region match.
The Eagles finished with a 294 total, 27 shots ahead of second-place Porter-Gaud (321). First Baptist (335) was third, followed by Hilton Head Prep (337) and Pinewood Prep (350).
Bluffton 6, Ashley Ridge 0: The Bobcats coasted to a Region 8-AAAA win without dropping a set.
Bluffton (6-2 overall, 5-1 region) returns to the court Thursday at Colleton County.

Hilton Head Christian: Meredith Inglis won three straight matches Tuesday to advance to the finals of the SCISAA Open in Sumter.
Inglis, an eighth-grader who played No. 4 singles for Hilton Head Christian last fall, opened with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Haley Hancock of Carolina Academy.
Inglis defeated Zan Beasley of Wilson Hall 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the semifinals.
Inglis knocked off Becca Johnson of Thomas Sumter 6-4, 6-0 to grab a spot in Wednesday's finals.
