Whale Branch 17, St. John's 5: Winning pitcher Olivia Walker struck out nine in the Warriors' season opener.
Walker went 2 for 2 with a home run and two runs scored to spark the Whale Branch offense. Nya Simmons and Ciara Courtney chipped in two hits each, and Marrisa Roberts homered and added another hit.
Autumn Moon also homered for Whale Branch.
The Warriors travel to Bethune-Bowman on Tuesday.
Thomas Heyward Academy: The Rebels went 2-2 at the Warhawk Invitational over the weekend.
Thomas Heyward defeated Colleton Prep 8-3 and Clareton Hall 9-2. Its losses were to Laurence Manning 2-0 and Colleton Prep 7-4 in a tiebreaker in the finale.
Freshman Elizabeth Bunton starred at the plate for the Rebels, batting .667 in the tournament. Hannah Cannon and Morgan Peeples each hit for a .545 average.
Pitching standouts for Thomas Heyward included Zoe Mitchell, who started both wins; and Selice Daley, who struck out five in the Rebels' opening loss to Laurence Manning.
The Rebels (3-2) next play at Colleton Prep on Wednesday.
Hilton Head High 26, West Ashley 9: Senior Abby Ogden scored seven times, Haley Matousek added six goals and Tristyn Sheaffer had five as the Seahawks won in a rout Monday.
Freshman goalie Jordan Balay made seven saves in her second start of the season.
The Seahawks (5-1) host West Ashley in a rematch Tuesday. Wando visits the island Wednesday.
Hilton Head Prep 11, Coastal Home School 1: The Dolphins won by mercy rule stoppage after four innings.
Starter Jim Caglyan earned the win. He allowed five hits, struck out three and walked one.
John Sheehan, Kevin Campbell, Brooks Robinson and James Leonard each had two hits for Hilton Head Prep. Sheehan and Robinson scored three runs apiece.
Hilton Head Prep (4-0) next travels to Porter-Gaud on Friday.
Beaufort High 5, Stratford 4, 8 innings: Starting pitcher Carson Gregory went six innings and struck out five before giving way to reliever Mattison Pike.
Stephen Baggett went 2 for 3 with a home run and two runs scored to power the Eagles offense. Gregory also homered for the Eagles.
Whale Branch: The Warriors won their season opener in a forfeit over St. John's.
Whale Branch (1-0) opens region play Tuesday at Bethune-Bowman.
Beaufort Academy 9, St. Andrews 0: The Eagles won their SCISAA Region 2-AA opener behind three goals from Clay Melville.
Jack Olsson added two goals for Beaufort Academy (2-2, 1-0). Ashton Guest recorded his first shutout in goal and made two saves.
Bluffton: The Bobcats placed second behind Lexington in the Outback Invitational at Woodside Plantation in Aiken.
Blufton was led by Drew Weary's 79, followed by Alec Weary with 80, Elliott Johnson with 81 and John DiGenova with 82.
