A year after Hilton Head Island High School boys soccer head coach Wayne Quinlan revived the Beaufort Cup, the preseason tournament is returning for a second year.
Beaufort Academy, Beaufort High, Bluffton, Hilton Head Prep and Whale Branch will join Hilton Head Island for the tournament to be played Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Wednesday, Friday and Sunday will be used as make-up dates in case of bad weather.
The six teams will be split into two groups for round-robin pool play (two games) with winners moving to the championship final and the other teams pairing across brackets for a third game.
Teams will earn three points for a win, none for a loss and one for a loss in overtime. There will be a one-point deduction for each red card, as well as one point for each goal up to three.
Games will last two 40-minute halves. If there is a tie after regulation, teams will play a maximum of two five-minute golden goal periods during which any goal wins the game. If still tied, teams then will go to penalty kicks.
There will be no overtime except in the championship match. All other National Federation rules apply. There will be no ties.
The Eagles of Beaufort High won last year's rain-challenged tournament with a 3-2 double-overtime championship win over Hilton Head Island.
