Seven wrestlers from Beaufort County high schools have been selected to compete in the 2014 Best Western North South All Star Wrestling Classic to be held March 6-8 at North Myrtle Beach High School.
Kentrell Seabrook and Jake Sharp of Beaufort High, Levi Joly and Mike Meyerink of Bluffton, Brian LaBean and Isaiah Sloan of Battery Creek and Whale Branch's Max Ford will compete for the South teams.
All but Battery Creek's LaBean will wrestle in the state individual tournament this weekend in Anderson. Bluffton's Joly is in search of his third straight All-State honor, while Battery Creek's Sloan and Whale Branch's Ford each have a shot at repeating as state champions.
"I personally think he's a lot better than last year," Whale Branch coach Josh DuPlessis said of Ford. "He's grown, not just as a wrestler, but as a person. He takes the extra time to help a lot of other kids who don't have the experience he has, and I think that's definitely helped him get better."
The format for the event will be that the 4-A/1-A North Team will wrestle against the 3-A/2-A South Team and the 3-A/2-A North Team will wrestle against the 4-A/1-A South Team at 6 p.m. March 7. The losers will wrestle for third place and the winners will wrestle for first place at noon March 8.
