Beaufort High 49, Fort Dorchester 47, OT: Beaufort High School's boys used stingy defense to help knock off previously undefeated Fort Dorchester in overtime, 49-47, in the championship game of the Modie Risher Basketball Invitational Classic on Saturday night in Charleston.
"This was the first time this year that we had to dig deep and fight for a victory," Beaufort High coach Bruce Beasley said. "I was very pleased to see that. They showed great determination and heart, a lot of desire."
The Eagles found themselves down 28-17 at halftime, but outscored Fort Dorchester 26-15 in the second half to send the game into overtime.

"One of the worst first halves we played, to one of the best second halves we played all year," Beasley said.
Kendrick Colvin, who was named the tournament MVP, led Beaufort with 17 points. Carlton Johnson added 15 points.
Adonis Grant also was named to the all-tournament team for the Eagles (9-1), who are off until Jan. 3, when they host Hilton Head Island High.
Eric Heyward led Fort Dorchester (8-1) with 13 points. William Munoz added 10.
Statesboro (Ga.) 62, Battery Creek 48: The Dolphins fell to the host team in the championship game of the Gentlemen's Classic in Statesboro, Ga.
Eric Freeman finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Yuneek Crittendon had 10 points and four assists for Battery Creek (7-3), which once again was missing Devonte Wilson, who was out with an injury.
Battery Creek returns to action Jan. 7 against Bishop England.
Jefferson (Ga.) 56, Hilton Head Island High 32: Troy Clifford had nine points as the Seahawks fell at the Walnut Grove Classic in Walnut Grove, Ga.
Hilton Head High (2-9) will play in the seventh-place game against Monroe (Ga.) at 11 a.m. Monday.
Hilton Head Island High 50, Jefferson (Ga.) 45: The Hilton Head Island High School girls basketball team mounted a second-half rally to win its semifinal game in the Walnut Grove Classic in Georgia, defeating Jefferson (Ga.), 50-45, to advance to Monday's championship game.
The Seahawks (8-3) trailed by nine points during the third quarter before fighting back.
Hilton Head High will take on Greater Atlanta Christian in the championship game at 6:30 p.m. Monday.
"I'm really proud of us to make the championship game in a really competitive tournament," Hilton Head High coach Dave Greenberg said.
Savannah Reier led the Seahawks with 12 points and five rebounds. Lauryn Bush added 11 points and six rebounds, and Americal Jenkins had 11 points, 16 rebounds and four blocked shots. Rachel Friend pitched in with nine points and three steals, and Tiffany Banks had seven points and four steals.
"Great effort by those five kids, I thought," Greenberg said.
Jefferson was led by Abby Franklin with 16 points.
Battery Creek 49, Hannah-Pamplico 21: The Dolphins won the fifth-place game in the Lake Marion Invitational, led by all-tournament selection Daisja Cannon's 24 points. Taniqua Mungin added 13 points for Battery Creek (7-3), which is off until Jan. 7 against Bishop England.
Whale Branch 52, Wade Hampton 20: The Warriors got 13 points from junior Shaniqua Johnson and 12 from sophomore Jonae Riley to win in a consolation game at Bluffton's Bobcat Classic.
The Warriors got the jump quickly despite the 9 a.m. tipoff and led 32-13 at halftime.
Whale Branch (7-4) is idle until a Jan. 6 game at Bluffton.
