Battery Creek 68, Ridgeland-Hardeeville 55: The Battery Creek boys basketball team improved to 2-0 in Region 6-AA on Friday, pulling away from Ridgeland-Hardeeville in the second half for a 68-55 victory.
Yuneek Crittendon had 21 points, three rebounds and three assists to lead the Dolphins (5-1), who had a 14-point lead in the second quarter before the Jaguars cut it to three by halftime.
Eric Freeman added 14 points and nine rebounds, and Devonte Wilson had 13 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Battery Creek plays again at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Beaufort High.
Beaufort Academy 57, Andrew Jackson 52: Nicky Macuch had 18 points, 12 rebounds and four steals to lead the Eagles into the championship game of the Andrew Jackson Christmas tournament in Ehrhardt.
Freshman Kane Thorp added 17 points for Beaufort Academy (2-6), which saw a 12-point lead at halftime whittled down by some hot 3-point shooting from the host team.
Beaufort Academy will take on rival Thomas Heyward Academy for the championship at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Hilton Head Prep 78, Coastal Home School 43: Randy Young and Noah Sulek each scored 22 points, and John Eck added 18 to help lead the Dolphins to an easy win in their final game before the holiday break.
Young also had 12 rebounds, while Eck grabbed 10 boards and Sulek had five steals. J.T. Marbut led Hilton Head Prep (6-1) with five assists.
The Dolphins don't return to action until Jan. 3.
Battery Creek 44, Ridgeland-Hardeeville 14: Daisja Cannon and Ericka Alston led a strong defensive effort for the Dolphins.
Cannon had seven steals to go along with a game-high 17 points. She also had six rebounds and five assists. Alston had six blocked shots and seven rebounds for Battery Creek (4-2 overall, 2-0 Region 6-AA), which led 23-8 at halftime.
Taniqua Mungin added 14 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Brianna Tolbert scored five points, Shanice Pusha-Powell had four points, Maty Dearsman grabbed six rebounds, and Deja Moultrie had three steals.
Battery Creek plays again at 6 p.m. Saturday at Beaufort High.
Thomas Heyward Academy 50, Jefferson Davis Academy 16: Balanced scoring and defense led the Rebels into the championship of the Andrew Jackson Christmas tournament in Ehrhardt.
Liz Bunton led the way for Thomas Heyward (4-5) with nine points. Haley Wade and Cheyanne Gray scored eight apiece, and Kelsey Kelnoffer and Allison Brendlen both scored six points. Ellie Bryan and Sydney Glassberg scored four each.
The Rebels will face Andrew Jackson in the final at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
Andrew Jackson 44, Beaufort Academy 43: A late 3-pointer and a free throw helped the host team rally past Beaufort Academy in the first round of the Andrew Jackson Christmas tournament.
Miranda Weslake scored 23 points for the Eagles, who led for most of the second half. Anna Dyer added six points.
Beaufort Academy will play Jefferson Davis at 3 p.m. Saturday in the consolation game.
Seahawk Slam: Beaufort High School leads the Beaufort County contingent after the first day of the Seahawk Slam at the Savannah International Trade & Convention Center.
The Eagles stand in 21st place out of 52 total teams in the individual tournament. Each weight class has 16 wrestlers remaining in the double-elimination format.
Host team Hilton Head Island High is in 26th place, with four wrestlers still alive. Brock Massey (132 pounds) is the only Seahawk still standing in the winner's bracket.
Bluffton is 28th, Battery Creek is 39th and Whale Branch is 40th.
Defending tournament champion Camden County (Ga.) is leading, and Brandon (Fla.) is in second place.
