The Seahawk Holiday Classic returns to Hilton Head Island High School on Saturday, as 16 basketball teams will look to take home the annual tournament title.
The Hilton Head High boys, who advanced to the championship round a year ago, will look to get their weekend off to a positive start at 8:30 p.m. against Copper Basin (Tenn.). The Seahawk girls, whose run last season ended in the semifinals, will take the court at 7 p.m. against Easley.
Four states are represented this year, including six teams from South Carolina. Hilton Head High and the Easley girls join the Fort Mill girls and the Brookland-Cayce, Dutch Fork and Buford boys as this year's representatives from the Palmetto State.
Maryland, Tennessee and Kentucky also are sending teams to this season's event.
The action gets underway Saturday with eight games, the first beginning at 10 a.m. All consolation games will move to the Hilton Head High auxiliary gymnasium over the ensuing three days, with winner's bracket games being held in the main gym.
All teams are guaranteed at least three games, with the girls and boys championship matches wrapping up the tournament Monday at 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., respectively.
Admission is $8 each day.
